Fishing Charters

FAQ’s

Can you tell me a little about Underdog Fishing Charters?

We started this Fishing Charter business because WE LOVE TO FISH. Captain Joey not only grew up in this area, but he’s also fished here his entire life and spent countless hours searching Mobile Bay, Orange Beach, Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, and other areas for the “sweet spot” where the biggest fish can be found. He knows the best kind of bait to use for each species, and what species bites when.

Who is the owner of Underdog Fishing Charters?

Our owner and fishing charter captain is Joey Lapeyrouse. Our company owner has worked writing monthly articles in Coastal Angler Magazine™ for the last five years. He writes about how to catch fish under all water conditions, seasons, etc… and has been fishing Mobile Bay, Dauphin Island, Mississippi Sound, and surrounding areas for over 20 years. We specialize in catching redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and all other sport and edible species.

Where do your fishing charters take place?

You’ll enjoy a memorable and personalized day on the water with our fishing charters. At Underdog Fishing Charters serving Mobile, Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan, and the Alabama Gulf Coast area – we love to catch fish and offer all-inclusive, flat-rate trips. Show up with sunblock, sunglasses, and food, drinks (no glass ), and our experienced team will provide the rest. During the hottest part of the summer, (i.e. Noon during July) fish will head toward deeper water and bite best at dawn and dusk. We’ll take you to places where you can catch speckled trout, flounder, redfish, King Mackerel, Pompano, Flounder, etc. You stand a better chance catching a “trophy” species (wall hanger) pre-dawn or pre-dusk. You can catch fish all day long, but certain times of day provide “optimal fishing” conditions…

What separates Underdog Fishing Charters from the competition?

We only use the best equipment on our fishing charters, including BLAZER BAY boats and ACTION CRAFT flats boats and SHIMANO rods and reels and ICEY-TEK coolers. We also use only high-quality gear so that your time will be spent catching fish, not dealing with equipment and tackle. Once the boat pulls back into the dock, and photos were taken (if requested), the captain will clean and de-bone all fish. We know how to recognize the signs for prime conditions where opportunities exist for you to land that trophy/tournament-winning fish! Schedule your fishing charter today.

What else can you tell me about your All-Inclusive Tours?

You will feast on mouthwatering fresh fish after the fishing charter. Our experienced crew will clean, fillet, and put your fish on ice inside Ziploc® bags for you to take home and enjoy. We break them down in fillets in bags for freezing and give you instructions on how to keep them.

What should I bring?

The only things you need to bring on our fishing charter trips are sunblock and food and, for your safety, avoid bringing glass containers of any kind.

What equipment do you provide on your fishing charters?

We provide all the necessary equipment including:

  • Rod/Reels
  • Ice
  • Fish Cleaning Supplies
  • Fishing Licenses
  • Bait &Tackle
  • Inshore Fishing

What can you tell me about your Inshore Fishing charters?

You will enjoy the beach landscapes while you fish in Mobile Bay on our inshore fishing trips. Fish for a number of species, including Speckled Trout, Red Fish, Flounder, Black Fish, White Trout, and All Other Species.

What can you tell me about your Offshore Fishing charters?

Be out of sight of land and only see the spectacular ocean during our offshore fishing charter trips. We catch and release sharks and fish a wide variety of species, including King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Red Snapper *(call for season closure or openings) Amberjack, Cobia, and Ling.
